HELP SAVE GENERAL MOUTON'S MONUMENT

The Tiger Courier Official Email List of the Louisiana Division - Sons of Confederate Veterans. Keeping you informed!
Important Information that you should know about the Division, the Confederation and your Heritage!
Dear SCV Compatriots;
The SCV and the UDC here in Lafayette, LA, are doing their best to protect and preserve the statue of Gen. Alfred Mouton, the local hero of the Battle of Mansfield. The statue is located in front of the old City Hall building where it was erected by a chapter of the UDC in 1923. We are currently involved in a lengthy legal process of trying to save the statue from removal by ’those people.’ The historical statue has been vandalized, the nose recently broken off and the letters on the monument chipped away. We have been fighting for two years to preserve and to keep the statue where it is, and have barely collected enough money from our members to pay for legal fees which seem never-ending as court dates keep being set back for one reason or another. We are currently owing about $2000. We have very sympathetic legal representation, but we still need to pay the fees for his efforts.
I realize most camps have their own financial problems in similar matters, but am wondering if there is any place to get financial help to continue the fight. Any help or advice would be welcomed.

 "To you, Sons of Confederate Veterans, we will
 commit the vindication of the cause for which we
 fought. To your strength will be given the defense
 of the Confederate soldier's good name, the guardianship
 of his history, the emulation of his virtues, the perpetuation
 of those principles which he loved and which you love also,
 and those ideals which made him glorious and which you also cherish."
