Mark your calendars!

Beauregard Camp 130 would like to invite everyone to join us for our revival of the old Decoration Day tradition at Metairie Cemetery on Saturday, April 3rd.
Attached is the flyer with full details. This year we will visit almost 60 tombs to leave flowers, ribbons, bows, and other mementos to show the world our heroes are not forgotten.
The day will start with an old fashion picnic on the lawn of the Army of Northern Virginia Tumulus.

Decoration Day is the precursor to our modern Memorial Day celebration. The South started it! This is a great family event. Kids of all ages welcome.

Forrest Funeral Fund

Compatriots,
As I am sure you are aware, there is a plan in the works for the
re-internment of General and Mrs. Forrest at Elm Springs. Some needed steps are finally starting to happen and we hope to have the ceremony this fall.
You are also probably aware that this ceremony is not budgeted and requires multiple fundraising resources to cover costs. Here is one of those ideas which I hope you will all adopt.
Throughout Southern history, when a family member passes the rest of the family will meet to pool their resources together to cover the expense of the funeral. I feel confident that we consider the General and his wife to be a part of our family. Our most frequent family gatherings are our monthly camp meetings. I am asking us all to have a donation jar (or hat, etc.) for the Forrest Funeral Fund at your April camp meeting.

Please announce to your camps in advance of the meeting that this will be happening so they can prepare to bring their donation. Then send your camp's donation to HQ marked for the Forrest Funeral Fund. As many camps as we have, I believe this could be a significant addition to the fundraising for this once in a life time event.

Deo Vindice

GENERAL MOUTON STATUE FUNDRAISER

The Tiger Courier Official Email List of the Louisiana Division - Sons of Confederate Veterans. Keeping you informed!
Important Information that you should know about the Division, the Confederation and your Heritage!
Gentlemen,

After several COVID related continuances, the fight in court to protect the Mouton statue in Lafayette is about to get back underway.

In the past, the Mouton Chapter of the UDC, which is party to the case, has solicited funds to pay attorney fees and it has been much appreciated. With that said, attorney fees don't stop as the case continues and the Mouton Chapter is once again in need of your donations.

At this point, a bill for $1,500 is coming due March 19th with an additional $2,500 due the end of April and $2,500 due by the the end of May. Jessica McChesney is spearheading the fight and fundraiser and will gladly accept donations by way of checks, money orders, cash apps, Venmo, etc. She is even willing to come and pick up donations in person if need be. Checks can be made out to CASH or UDC Mouton Chapter. They can be mailed to Jessica at 1400 East Bayou Pkwy, Unit 4C, Lafayette, La 70508. She can be reached via cell phone at 337-298-0070 and/or email at Jtallchic23@aol.com should anyone want to contact her directly to make a donation or have any questions.

The Mouton Camp stands with Jessica and the ladies of the Mouton Chapter in this fight and is doing all it can to assist them. Please consider helping them individually and as Camps and donate what you can. The protective order on the statue is solid but because of the efforts of those who want to see the statue removed, it must be defended and the Mouton Chapter is standing up.

YOS,

Charles Lauret
Adjutant, Mouton Camp 778

You Made It Happen!

Senate Bill 158 is Defeated!

Friends,

Thanks to the actions of our compatriots and our circle of friends, the Georgia State Senate did not allow Senate Bill 158 out of Committee. It is now too late for it to be voted on.

The massive response of SCV members and other friends of the traditional Southland showed the Senate that there was no support for the proposal to place the King Bell atop the Confederate carving at Stone Mountain and re-purpose the park to “create and maintain an appropriate and suitable monument for civil, voting, and human rights.” In fact, there was considerable opposition.

For several years now we have all been depressed as we have seen statues and monuments desecrated or removed. Today we have gained a major victory for the Georgia Division, Sons of Confederate Veterans and our supporters.

All the credit goes to you, the membership, for your efforts. Calling and emailing your State Senators to vote against Senate Bill 158 worked. This Bill was on the verge of passing out of committee and then proceeding to the Senate floor. One Senator even claimed that passage was “a done deal.”

The extra effort to write, email, call and visit your legislators made a tremendous difference.

I am immensely proud of our Division and thank you all for your dedication and hard work.

Thank you,

FEB. 12, 2021

I am pleased to announce today the names of four outstanding leaders who have agreed to serve as the Department’s representatives to the Congressionally-mandated commission on the naming of items of the Department of Defense that commemorate the Confederate States of America.

They are:

  • Admiral Michelle Howard, U.S. Navy, retired
  • General Bob Neller, U.S. Marine Corps, retired
  • Dr. Kori Schake, Director of Foreign & Defense Policy Studies, American Enterprise Institute
  • Brigadier General Ty Seidule, U.S. Army, retired (Emeritus Professor of History, U.S. Military Academy)

Each of these individuals possesses unique and relevant experience, in and out of government, that I know will inform this important effort.  I am enormously grateful for their willingness to serve the nation again, and I thank them in advance for the wise counsel I am confident they will provide.

I also thank the Congress for establishing this process, and I continue to pledge my personal commitment – and that of the Department – to making sure it succeeds.  I look forward to seeing the results of the commission’s work in the months ahead.
