Private Pvt. Isaac Reeves and Sgt. James Reeves of Lake Charles served in Company K, 10th Louisiana Infantry Regimment. Isaac was mortally wounded at the Battle of Gettysburg, PA, and James was killed in action in the Battle of Chancellorsville, VA.

THE SOUTH'S DEFENDER MONUMENT

Located at the CALCASIEU PARISH COURTHOUSE AT LAKE CHARLES, LOUISIANA

The statue was badly damaged during Hurricane Laura in August 2020 and has yet to be

repaired or restored by the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury, the public agency responsible

for repairing damaged public property.

CONFEDERATE IMAGE OF THE MONTH

Sgt.Joseph C. LeBleu

Company K (Confederate States Rangers)

10th Louisiana Infantry Regiment

Army of Northern Virginia.

He was the colorbearer of the regiment at the Battle of Malvern Hill, Va., on July 1, 1862. The flagpole was shot in two while the regiment was charging a battery of enemy artillery during the battle.

Sgt. LeBleu was a resident of Lake Charles, Louisiana, and after the war was elected to the

Calcasieu Parish Police Jury. He was a charter member of the Lake Charles camp of the United

Confederate Veterans. LeBleu also organized the first Lake Charles camp of the Sons of Confederate Veterans in his police jury office.

CONFEDERATE IMAGE OF THE MONTH

Pvt. Y.R. LeMonnier Jr., Greenleaf's Company, Orleans Light Horse

He was born in Paris, France on Jan. 29, 1843, and joined the Crescent Regiment 

in March 1862 and fought at the Battle of Shiloh. He transferred into the

Orleans Light Horse in July 1862. LeMonnier served in that unit for the

rest of the war and was released on May 1, 1865, after the surrender of

the Army of Tennessee at Greensboro, N.C. LeMonnier returned to

New Orleans and became a prominent physician in the Crescent City.

He married in 1873 and died in New Orleans on Jan. 14, 1928,

Major General Franklin K. Gardner

Franklin Kitchell Gardner^[1] (January 29, 1823 – April 29, 1873) was a Confederate major general in the American Civil War, noted for his service at the Siege of Port Hudson on the Mississippi River. Gardner built extensive fortifications at this important garrison, 16,000 strong at its peak. At the mercy of conflicting orders, he found himself besieged and greatly outnumbered. His achievement at holding out for 47 days and inflicting severe losses on the enemy before surrendering has been praised by military historians.

CONFEDERATE IMAGE OF THE MONTH

Private Armelin Linscombe, Company K, 

10th Louisiana Infantry Regiment (postwar)

He was severely wounded at the Battle of Sharpsburg, MD,

hit in the neck by a musket ball, and was disabled. He was

captured and held at Fort McHenry, Baltimore, Maryland.

He was eventually paroled and returned home to St. Landry Parish

Louisia. He married after the war and had 10 children. 

He farmed in Louisiana and Texas and died in 1914. 

and is buried in China Cemetery in Texas.

His last name is mispelled Lincicome in his military records.

CONFEDERATE IMAGE OF THE MONTH

March is Confederate Flag Month because it is

the month in which the First National Confederate

flag was adopted in 1861 by the Confederate Congress. It

was nicknamed the "Stars and Bars." In March 1865 the Third 

National Confederate flag was adopted by the Confederate Congress. 

In between was the Second National Flag which was nicknamed the

"Stainless Banner," which draped to the coffin of Lt. Gen Thomas

J. "Stonewall" Jackson at his 1863 funeral in Lexington, Va. Pictured

above is the battle Flag of the Army of Tennessee, noted for being

rectangular in shape. The Army of Northern Virginia battle flag was

similar in style but was shaped in a square. There were many other

types of battle flags, as well as naval flags.

(32nd Louisiana Infantry Regiment)

Voohies Guards, Orleans Parish.

He was to be reported sick for 4 days

at the Port Hudson Hospital, endured

the whole siege and was surrendered

and paroled with the rest of the garrison.

Later, he was reported to have been killed

at the Battle of Yellow Bayou, La. May 18, 1864.

This image is a CDV (colorized) that 

has an Alabama provenance. The name

Jones is too common to determine what unit 

he was in. His dark cadet grey uniform is similar 

in style to those of the Tait & Co. of Limerick, 

Ireland that were imported in large numbers

through the blockade in the mid to late
